The National Youth Orchestra of Wales is the oldest youth orchestra in the world and recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. The orchestra provides opportunities for the most talented young musicians in Wales to perform to a very high standard on a national and international stage. Many of the orchestral members go on to become professional musicians in some the world’s greatest orchestras.
The Friends of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales is a registered charity which supports the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and its members. Each year the Friends of NYOW provide awards and bursaries to orchestral members to assist with the cost of the summer residential course. The Friends of NYOW also assist with the hire of music and with the commissioning of new compositions as well as providing former members with news of the orchestra via newsletters and social events.
This year, the Friends of NYOW are organising a concert to raise funds for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. The ‘Magical Music’ concert will be held in the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea on 17th September at 7.00 pm and it will feature music from Broadway and West-End shows performed by the Dave Hughes Orchestra, the Mike Plowman Singers and Wynne Evans as soloist and compère. The raffle will be drawn during this event and any winners who are not at the concert will be contacted after the event to arrange delivery of their prizes.
